Jim Jones is taking a stand for rap artists who've supported President Donald Trump since he was reelected.
During an interview TMZ published on Thursday, February 20, the "JOMO" rapper was asked to share his thoughts about artists like Snoop Dogg and Nelly after they performed at the 47th president's inauguration events. Jones said he's not really into politics and didn't vote in the last election, but he did say that the president should be respected no matter who is in office.
“I’ma take it to the days where I knew the president is the president and we wasn’t allowed to get to the White House,” he began.
“And anything to be next to the White House used to be a great thing to do because you’re now talking to the president or you’re performing for the president. The president is still the president. It’s a race. Somebody lost the race, somebody won the race. So what do they expect us to do? Disrespect the president because that person didn’t win? No. He’s still the president of the United States so we still have to show that much respect to the president of the United States. That’s how I feel about it."
Jones offered up his opinion on the same day artists like Kodak Black, Rod Wave and Boosie Badazz were invited to celebrate Black History Month at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. President Trump hosted the reception and revealed a plan for a National Garden of American Heroes featuring statues of historic figures in Black history. Of course, the aforementioned artists received backlash for attending. Yet, Jones said he would've gone to the White House regardless of who won the election.
"If I was to get an invitation – no matter who was in the office, nine times out of 10 I think I’ma pop out to go to the White House," he said. “I’m a kid from the projects that we known the president to be the ruler of the world when we was coming up and we seen people go crazy just to have — So I want my chance to be at the White House too, see what’s going on. That’s how I feel. Don’t crucify me for just give you my honest opinion."
