Celebrity chef and restaurateur Gordon Ramsay revealed he was previously diagnosed with skin cancer, which he confirmed was removed, in a post shared on his Instagram account Saturday (August 30).
Ramsay, 58, shared two photos of himself, which included one with a bandage over part of his face and neck and another with stitches from his earlobe to the top of his neck.
"Grateful and so appreciative for the incredible team at The Skin Associates and their fast reactive work on removing this Basal Cell Carcinoma thank you ! Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend ❤️I promise you it’s not a face lift! I’d need a refund…….😜" Ramsay wrote in the caption of the post.
Basal cell carcinoma is a form of cancer that begins in the basal cells, which produce new skin cells to replace ones that have died and typically occurs on parts of the skin most commonly exposed to sun such as the head and neck, resulting in a slightly transparent or brown bump.
“Most basal cell carcinomas are thought to be caused by long-term exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sunlight,” the Mayo Clinic states. “Avoiding the sun and using sunscreen may help protect against basal cell carcinoma.”
Ramsay, who owns and operates more than 80 restaurants worldwide, including more than 20 in the United States, is the star of several cooking reality television shows including Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, MasterChef and his latest series Gordon Ramsay's Secret Service.
