LGBTQ: Rights Group Issues Travel Advisory for Florida

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest LGBTQ rights group, has issued a travel advisory for Florida.

The advisory, which follows a similar one issued earlier this week by the NAACP, warns the LGBTQ community about new state laws signed by Governor Ron DeSantis that it believes are "hostile" to the community. The group's warning is an update to an advisory that was issued back in March by Equality Florida, another civil rights advocacy group. The Human Rights Campaign tweeted, "Ron DeSantis continues to make Florida an unwelcoming, dangerous place for LGBTQ+ people with his recent wave of discriminatory bills. That's why we're joining @equalityfl's travel advisory warning people about the state's extremist policies."

Since signing his so-called "Don't Say Gay" bill into law, DeSantis has signed multiple anti-LGBTQ+ bills targeting drag shows, personal pronouns, and gender-affirming care for minors. The Human Rights Campaign noted its advisory is not a "blanket recommendation against travel nor a call for boycott," but is intended to outline "the devastating impacts of laws that are hostile to the LGBTQ community, restrict access to reproductive health care, repeal gun safety policies, foment racial prejudice, and attack public education by banning books and censoring curriculum in order that prospective travelers or residents can make the best decisions for themselves and their families."
